THE perennial problem of a shortage of parking in Bromsgrove led to a call from the town's police chief for the council to consider legalising parking on some streets. This could range from 30 minutes in High Street to four hours in less busy roads. Extra urgency was being given to finding a solution since residents in College Road had started to complain about vehicles being parked all day outside their homes.
THE vicar of Rubery, the Rev F Lacey, marked the site of the new St Chad's church by cutting a cruciform shape of turf in front of the old building on Sunday morning. The new church would be larger than the present wooden structure and was set to open at Easter 1960. A sale of bricks to raise cash for the project has so far raised £130.
FAVOURITE backers had a bad day at the Harkaway Club's point-to point horse races, which were held at a bitterly cold Chaddesley Corbett course. Only one favourite, ridden by the popular local girl Pat Rushton from Phepson near Droitwich Spa, obliged when she steered home her own horse Episil in the Ladies' event. Only 57 horses turned out for the five races and a 4/- stake on the Tote on each one would have landed a not inconsiderable net profit of £27/1/6.
