50 Years Ago, April 5, 1958

FOLLOWING his gift of a bus shelter in Stoke Prior, near a junction of Shaw Lane and Hanbury Road, Mr LG Harris had now offered to pay for the cost of lighting it. In a letter to the parish council, Mr Harris praised the design of the structure and said he was sure it would fill a long felt need. Mr Harris added it was one of the most attractive he had seen.

A DINNER and dance at Perry Hall Hotel was held for the revived Association of Old Students of Bromsgrove High School. There were over 60 present at the evening and speeches mentioned that the possible scope of association activities was without limit, and that the committee were anxious for new members to come forwards with ideas and support. Mr David Turner said it was through the headmaster that the association had been revived, following the upset of the war.

Droitwich's new unopposed county councillor, Reginald Pearson, told members of the Spa Ratepayer's Association, at their annual meeting, that he would do all he could to upset' the county council complacency of ill advised spending of public money. He said: "I am certain we have broken the ice. We have put a ratepayer's candidate in the county club' at Worcester. Who knows we may even control it at some future date."
