WYCHBOLD Village Hall faced an uncertain future following a warning from the hall committee chairman Peter Evans that it could close for good. Blaming apathy and fewer bookings, the chairman said its future lies in the hands of the people of Wychbold. He slammed the vast majority of villagers for not appearing bothered about the hall, its facilities and activities. Apathy was typified when only nine replies, from 370 Wychbold householders who received a "what do you want from your hall?" questionnaire, were received.

AROUND 80 workers were set to be made redundant from Bromsgrove's largest employer Garringtons. The news had come as a shock to people of the forgings firm, who only five months previously had suffered the loss of 350 jobs. The latest redundancies reduced the workforce to around 220. Mr Alf Cotton, of the engineering union AUEW, was surprised to hear of the news, calling it a body blow for the industry. He said that some of those going had 30 years in the industry. A spokesman for Garringtons said that action had to be taken to secure a long term, profitable future for the firm.
