THE cricket season, with the prospect of warm, sunny days and light evenings and games played in many villages in and around Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa, will soon be upon us.
Our pictorial glance at the past this week features a Catshill XI from the late 1950s.
The team began life as the Longbridge Knights as the players worked the night shift in the Austin works toolroom.
Ray Albutt, from Fairfield, who kindly loaned us the photo, said they originally played at Wychbold, but later moved behind the Crown pub at Catshill.
The pavilion was an old converted prefab, seen in the background.
Ray recalls that the team attracted lots of spectators for their Sunday matches and this added to the friendly, happy atmosphere.
