WORSHIPPERS at St John's parish church in Bromsgrove had contributed towards a record collection of £90/6/8 over Easter when some 423 people had taken communion. The previous highest figure had been £78. A source of delight was the bank of daffodils at the entrance to the chancel and the usual display of lilies adorning the altar.

BROMSGROVE'S new swimming bath to be built by the district council on land off Alcester Road at a cost of £135,000 was said to be too expensive and would not be approved by the government minister. Now the authority was to ask the architect to take a fresh look at the plan. The proposed junior pool was also to be axed as was the stage and dressing rooms in the combined pool complex which it was anticipated would also double as a public hall.

RAILWAY police were patrolling the line between Bromsgrove and Birmingham night and day after receiving reports of trains coming under fire from air rifle attacks. In one incident on the Lickey Incline a carriage window had been shattered.
