THOMAS Prescott, a lad aged 12 from Upton Warren, was sentenced to be detained on a training ship until the age of 16 by magistrates at Bromsgrove Police Court. The court heard that his father could not control him and that he irregularly attended school. His father told the bench he could not afford to contribute to the boy's maintenance, but he was ordered to pay 1/- per week towards his son's maintenance.
FOLLOWING last week's snowy Eastertide the weather was again a main topic of conversation in Bromsgrove. Strong winds, combined with heavy snow on Saturday, produced blizzard conditions more reminiscent of winter than spring. On Tuesday and Thursday rain fell in torrents leaving many areas flooded, but Friday was warm and sunny. The Messenger reported that snow in April was not that unusual. On April 1906 the town experienced a snowfall of considerable depth.'
THE half-yearly rent audit of the cottages and allotment tenants of the Hanbury Hall Estate was held at the Vernon Arms pub in the village. The business was conducted by estate clerk William Baylis after which 40 people sat down to a splendid repast. After toasting the king, royal family and their landlord, Sir Harry Vernon and Lady Vernon, several of the company delighted their fellows with songs and recitations.
