BROMSGROVE was hit by a "thunderstorm of remarkable violence" during freak weather in the town. Lightning was described as exceptionally vivid, and the thunder deafening, but the principal damage in the district was caused by rainfall. At the time of the storm, every road was turned into a brook, and the town's brook rose by two feet. Buildings were flooded and at Church Mills, 11 pigs and 26 fowls were drowned.

AT Droitwich Petty Sessions, youths James Inett, of Friar Street, and William Bourne, of The Vines, were both charged with loitering and refusing to leave Droitwich Railway Station. Walter Knee, station master, said he saw the pair on the platform, and ordered them to leave. However, after leaving, they immediately returned. Alfred Edwins, a porter of the Great Western Railway Company, gave similar evidence and added that he believed the defendants interfered with passengers' luggage. Both were fined 2s 6d each, and ordered to pay costs of 9s.

A LARGE number attended the opening of new classrooms at the Baptist Church, Catshill. The improvements to the Sunday school included a comfortable room for sewing meetings, an infants' room and a small kitchen. The entire cost, including refurbishment and redecoration, was around £140. It was reported that the school had become the best equipped in the village, now comfortably accommodating more than 200 scholars.
