THE BEAT GOES ON: Harry Livingstone, Ross Williams and Kaia Harris have fun playing the African drums.

YOUNGSTERS at a Bromsgrove school are entitled to blow their own trumpets after delighting their parents at a musical concert Since the start of the year children in years three and four at Catshill First School and Nursery have been taking part in the Worcestershire County Council Music Project - Play to Learn. Sixty children have learnt to play the djembe drum, which is an African instrument. They have learnt complex rhythmic patterns and drumming techniques producing a fantastic range of original musical arrangements.

All that hard work culminated in an exciting concert for parents and visitors from The David Morgan Music Trust.

“The Play to Learn project has been a hugely valuable and inspiring addition to the school’s curriculum."
Sarah Robertson, deputy headteacher

Children have also had the opportunity to learn the violin and next term will begin to play the clarinet.

Sarah Robertson, deputy headteacher, said: "The Play to Learn project has been a hugely valuable and inspiring addition to the school's curriculum. As well as gaining a huge amount of pleasure from this experience, it has also helped to develop the children's listening and concentration skills."
