A BRAVE cancer patient has had a staggering response to her fundraising campaign to help others with the disease.

Helen Fisher, from Beacon Hill, Rubery, had her head shaved last February to raise money for a charity and support group which helped her when she was first diagnosed with the disease in 2004.

"Rather than just ‘lose my hair to the chemo’ I decided to turn it into a positive and have my head shaved to raise money for the hospice and the breast care team at the Alexandra Hospital, who also helped me on my previous journey.”

Helen said: "In December I was diagnosed again, but this time my treatment involves chemotherapy, so rather than just lose my hair to the chemo' I decided to turn it into a positive and have my head shaved to raise money for the hospice and the breast care team at the Alexandra Hospital, who also helped me on my previous journey."

The 55-year-old mother-of-four, who is the secretary and treasurer of West Bromwich Albion FC ladies' team, was joined by husband Robin, 54, son Simon, 32, and Wayne Harper, coach of the Albion under-12s girls team, in shaving their hair off in front of 100 people.

Helen split the money raised between the two causes and presented them with a cheque for £2,628 - the total raised so far, at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

She added: "I have been staggered by the response, everyone has dug deep. Donations are still coming in and I'll keep raising as much money as possible."

Helen said she is hoping to arrange further fundraising events in the near future.
