Racially aggravated assault

INVESTIGATIONS are being carried out by police into an alleged racially aggravated assault in Rubery.

The incident happened at about 11pm on Wednesday March 19, at Tino's Pizza, New Road, Rubery, and police are now seeking witnesses.

A man and woman went into the shop and the man requested food. A member of staff refused to serve him as he had apparently caused problems in the shop several weeks ago. The man then started shouting and swearing, spat at him, and racially abused him. The woman then persuaded the man to leave the shop.

The offender is described as white, about 6ft tall, of very slim build, with a skinny face and light coloured eyebrows. He was aged about 30 and had a very strong Birmingham accent. He was wearing a dark green baseball cap, navy hooded sweatshirt, and dark green combat-style trousers.

PC Ed Banks, of Rubery Police, said: "This man's conduct in shouting, swearing at and racially abusing the member of staff was clearly unacceptable, even without the spitting.

"There were other customers in the shop at the time of the offence, and we would like to speak to them and to anyone who knows who this man is."

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact PC Banks on 08457 444888 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
