Putting safety first

10:24am Tuesday 6th May 2008

LONG awaited safety railings have been installed outside St Chad's Park in Rubery.

The railings have been put there to stop people trying to cross the road on a bad bend. According to Councillor Peter McDonald (Labour/Rubery) they have been a huge success since they were installed.

"After months of campaigning with local residents, railings have at long last been installed at the entrance to St Chad's Park at Whetty Lane," he said.

"There have been a number of near misses with children running out of the park into the road, which is situated on a bend. These railings will improve the safety of mothers and toddlers entering and leaving the park."

In answer to one resident's concern that pedestrians can not now walk past the park because the railing block the way, he said: "No-one should be walking past the park entrance because there is no proper footpath there."
