AN animal lover has raised £2,500 for the Bromsgrove-based Blue Cross pet charity after a husky dog trek across Norway.

Dudley sales director, Mark Higgins, returned from a seven-day Husky dog trek across Norway and Sweden raised the cash for the adoption centre which re-homes unwanted pets.

The trip followed year-long fundraising activities which included shaving off his long hair, which raised over £300 towards the trek. He has also been selling home-made food at work and organising events.

Mark said: "I've supported The Blue Cross in Bromsgrove for years and was determined to organise a huge fundraising push for them. The trip to the Arctic was hard work but a brilliant experience I will never forget.

"I had a team of six dogs for the trip and slept in a tent through temperatures of minus 25 degrees, living on frozen sandwiches and boil in the bag meals. It was certainly a once in a lifetime experience."

Neil Edwards, Blue Cross centre manager at Bromsgrove, added: "The Blue Cross relies on donations to look after the homeless pets in our care, so we are truly grateful to Mark for such a gesture of generosity. I'd also like to thank his colleagues at Virgin Media for all their support for Mark and kind donations."

People can still donate on line at www.justgiving.com/markshuskytrek.
