St Catherine’s Blackwell WI

12:13pm Friday 25th April 2008

The April meeting was opened by Diane, who welcomed members and two visitors. The minutes from the previous meeting were read out and agreed and then Gladys was thanked for organising our first walk round Bourneheath. The next walk will be a bluebell walk on the evening of May 7, again with the option of a meal after. We have also been invited to go on a bluebell walk the same day in the afternoon by members of Cofton Hackett WI and some members expressed their interest to support both.

On May 15th it will be the resolution meeting and Pearl has kindly agreed to talk about and organise the voting. A silent auction will follow. The final skittles league match was played on April 24 and an extra match and social evening has been organised for May 12. We will be having a cake stall at the local school fete in June and holding a coffee morning in July. Both our president and secretary are to attend a workshop next week designed to help them improve their skills in the WI. An invitation has been received from Frankley WI for two of our members to attend their birthday celebrations on May 21 and Jean and Marjorie have accepted. Members were told of planned activities for the celebrations of 40 years at Catshill Methodist Church - these will include a flower festival, cake making and a painting competition and are planned for the weekend of July 12 and 13. Anyone who would like to take part, or visit, will be made welcome.

Flowers were presented to Maureen on the occasion of a special birthday and then Diane introduced our speaker, Judy Berrow, who talked about creating her garden from scratch. It was an interesting talk with plenty of colourful slides taken through the seasons. The raffle prize went to Carolynne and the competition was won by Jenny. Maureen brought a birthday cake to enjoy with the tea and coffee.
