Pat Tonks, president, was in the chair at the meeting. Dot Waldron read the minutes of the last meeting and secretary Beryl Smith gave her report.

Jane Baker, who had been our delegate to the spring council meeting at Malvern, gave a comprehensive account of that event. Copies of a fund-raising quiz compiled by WFWI were available.

Michael Hall was our guest speaker. He is a fount of knowledge concerning the author Francis Brett Young, who was born in Halesowen in 1881 and who died in South Africa in 1954. He had remained closely associated with Halesowen and other parts of Worcestershire for most of his life.

Brett Young came across as a man of many talents, which he had used to benefit the local community wherever there was a need. Dot Waldron gave a vote of thanks to Michael saying how much his talk reminded her of old associations with Halesowen and Birmingham, where she had lived when younger.

Flowers for the officers' table were by Vi Silver, the competition for an old book was won by Jean Coulter with Ruth Deakin was runner-up, and Kate Westcott provided the beautiful birthday cake served at tea time.
