VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK.....a time to say thank you!

Volunteers’ Week (June 1st-7th) is an annual celebration of the fantastic and amazing contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. Its time to say a massive thank you to the UK’s volunteer army who regularly contribute to our society. It's a way to recognise the way that organisations celebrate the work of volunteers across our land.

Every year over 20 million people throughout the United Kingdom volunteer, donating more than 100 million hours to their communities every week. It’s been estimated that the economic value of this activity is worth in excess of £40 billion to our economy. Services and initiatives that are vital to the running of our country simply wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for this committed army of volunteers. Where would our Judiciary be without the 30,000 plus volunteers who give their time as magistrates? Our police force is bolstered by over 15,000 Special Constables giving their time as volunteers. Then there is the NHS, the Coastguard Rescue Service and Mountain Rescue Service, RNLI and many others......I could go on and on mentioning those volunteers, working for Charities, who help to make our communities safer and better places to live and work. Many are the so called retired who want to make a difference in their later years.

At  Citizens Advice in the Wyre Forest we have a brilliant team of volunteers. There are very few paid workers at CAB, most of the staff are volunteers who gladly give their time to help others.

This year we are holding a Volunteers Open House Week (June 1st to 7th) at our Bureau. Just follow the balloons!

This has a dual purpose. First to say thank you to our existing army of volunteers and second to promote our need for new volunteers to join this fantastic team. In these difficult economic times our workload is increasing and our services are in more demand than ever. Maybe you could spare a few hours a week to get involved. It’s rewarding, challenging and fun working with the great team at the Wyre Forest Bureau.

So this week it’s time to say thank you to those who already volunteer and thank you in anticipation to those who may feel prompted to come and join us in making a difference.

Why not pop into our offices during our Volunteer Open House Week in New Street and talk to us about volunteering. You could look us up on our website www.wyreforestcab.org.uk or give us a call on 01562 60194.

Go on….pop in and chat to us….you won’t regret it.....we would love to have you on board.
