LAW firm J D Spicer Zeb has been recognised by the Law Society in its annual Excellence Awards, earning praise for its expansion to Birmingham.

More than 600 lawyers and their guests joined Law Society president Lucy Scott-Moncrieff and BBC broadcaster Mishal Husain at the black tie dinner and presentation ceremony at Old Billingsgate in London.

J D Spicer Zeb, which has offices across London in the City, Camden and Brent and recently established its office in Birmingham, was presented with the award by Law Society president Lucy Scott-Moncrieff.

J D Spicer Zeb was awarded the Lexcel Award for Excellence in Practice Management. Lexcel, the Law Society’s practice management standard, is the benchmark for excellence in the legal profession.

The award celebrates excellence in practice management and service delivery from Lexcel practices.

The judges were impressed by the firm’s use of Lexcel to further their strong commitment to client care, including an office launch in Birmingham. Other initiatives include improved strategic planning, a comprehensive restructure and a new focus on pro bono work. The judges also noted the high volume and variety of positive client testimonials.

Ms Scott-Moncrieff said: “Every year the number, range and quality of the entries gets greater and this year is no exception. The winners and highly commended entrants should be extremely proud.

“Winning a Law Society Excellence Award is a huge achievement that brings valuable recognition for individuals and firms. These awards reflect the Law Society’s commitment to the promotion of quality, innovation and client service across the legal profession.

“This year our annual awards were bigger and better than ever, with well over 600 people gathered to celebrate the individual and team achievements of solicitors from across England and Wales.”

Kirit Khushal, Partner at J D Spicer Zeb, said: “As a firm that is a predominantly legal aid practice, this award not only highlights our commitment to achieving excellent client service through practice management but has extra meaning for us in recognising our commitment to the delivery of legal aid and serving the most vulnerable in society, especially under the current political and economic constraints.

“Our clients are the backbone to the practice and we are thrilled to have won this award.”

He added: “The expansion of our practice into Birmingham aligns with our ethos of serving vulnerable clients and allows us to reach out to new clients. Winning this award is a good testimony to the work we are trying to achieve.”
