This August Bank Holiday at the County Museum at Hartlebury will be holding a big family event 'Pirate School' (11am-5pm).

Visitors of all ages are invited to come along and learn how to be a pirate on the good ship Hartlebury.

Captain Sharkbreath and his first mate Ruby Cutlass will be teaching lessons including reading treasure maps, jobs aboard ship, singing sea-shanties and how to talk 'pirate'.

Scurvy Dogg the Buccaneer will also be on hand to put youngsters through the rigours of a cannon firing drill.

Children will be able to follow a treasure map through the museum and maybe even discover their own piece of treasure at the end.

Craft activities including making pirate hats and paper boats will also be on offer as well as storytelling, face-painting and other games.

At 3pm Captain Sharkbreath will judge the Pirate fancy dress competition so any children visiting on the day are encourage to come dressed in their best pirate wear.

Visitors may even be lucky enough to spot Captain Jack Sparrow himself who we have heard will be visiting our 'School' that day.

The Castle Kitchen Café will also be serving some special Pirate themed dishes alongside their usual menu of tasty treats.

Rachel Robinson, Museums Worcestershire's Visitor Experience Manager, said: “We're really excited about our big Pirate School day, there will be so much to see and do on the day and we are very pleased that Captain Sharkbreath, Ruby Cutlass, Scurvy Dogg and Jack Sparrow have agreed to teach at our school. All the staff are looking forward to leaning how to be great Pirates and for anyone out there who would like to attend our school for the day, don’t forget to wear your Pirate costume!"

Admission charges for the day are just £5 adults, £2.50 children & concessions and £13 for a family ticket (2 adults & 2 children).

Then, from Tuesday,August 27, through to Friday, August 30, the Pirate fun continues with craft activities each day including Jolly Roger Flags, Pirate Masks, Make a Treasure Map and more. Normal admission charges apply plus £1 per day for the craft activities (Tues-Fri).
