PEOPLE can start to feel the first hint of summer in Droitwich with the programme announced for the ‘Bands in the Lido Park’ season.

Bands will be performing at the bandstand in Lido Park every Sunday throughout the summer, with residents and visitors invited to come along and enjoy the free concerts.

The musical programme has been put together by Droitwich Spa Town Council and will launch on Sunday, May 11 running throughout the summer months from 2-4pm every Sunday afternoon until the final performance on Sunday, September 7.

Councillor Alex Sinton, chairman of the band concerts working party, said: “We had a great summer last year and this ensured an excellent and very well attended programme of concerts. This year we have been able to continue the weekly concerts and as well as keeping our fingers crossed weather-wise, I am delighted that we have been able to put on a programme of concerts that is extremely varied. As well as the much-loved brass bands we have some marvellous jazz ensembles booked. For the ‘Picnic in the Park’ we have a new group ‘The Jents’ who have a fantastic repertoire to suit all tastes. All we need now is a summer to equal last year’s.”

People are invited to bring their own picnics and lawn chairs to make an event of the concerts, or just wander past and enjoy the free music. The Lido Cafe will be open during all of the concerts, and the Lido Pool will be open from May 24.

The concerts programme includes performances from Alcester Victoria Silver Band, Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra, Central England Concert Band, and Malvern Hills District Brass Band, with a special performance during the Picnic in the Park by the Jents on Sunday, July 6.

The full programme will be featured on the town notice boards and on droitwichspa.com and droitwichspa.gov.uk. For more information on the summer concerts contact the town council office on 01905 774258.
