A GROUP of Droitwich residents has teamed up to raise money for Marie Cure Cancer Care in the town, and they recently held their first fundraising event together.

The ‘Picnic in the Park’ saw the eight group members selling fresh strawberries and cream, fruit jellies, and home-made cakes from a stall in Lido Park, where they managed to raise £265 for the charity.

They are now calling for more volunteers to join the group so they can expand their plans for the future, and they’re also asking for volunteers to join a Marie Curie choir based in the Droitwich area.

Marie Curie provides free care to terminally ill people in their own homes, staying overnight to give physical care to their patients and emotional support and respite for family and carers. It receives 40 per cent of its funding through the NHS and has to raise the rest for itself.

If anybody is interested and would like further details, they should contact Maureen Watts on 01905 813 635.
