PARENTS, carers, staff and friends of the children at Ombersley Endowed First School and Nursery, have raised more than £7,000 over the last school year, which has been spent on purchasing extra resources for the pupils, as well as supporting extra activities at the school.

Thanks to the fundraising, the school has already obtained £1,000 worth of new ‘Read, Write Inc.’ Reading and writing resources, and five Roamer Robots, with are designed to help children of all ages to develop computer programming skills as part of their ICT curriculum.

The money has also been put toward new musical instruments for early years pupils, school trips, maths and library resources, and help toward the school’s India Arts week which it held earlier in the year.

Headteacher Caroline Moore, said: “We are so lucky to have the support of such dedicated friends, parents, carers and staff. We are a small, rural school located in the beautiful village of Ombersley and all parents are encouraged to become part of school life. Money raised by the Friends goes towards all those little extras that help to enrich the learning experiences of our children. Thank you to everyone who has helped to support our school.”

Janine Rusby, chairman of the Friends committee, added: “A wide range of fun events have been organised including a quiz night, a race night and the Christmas and Summer Fairs – the school’s biggest fundraisers. We also launched our 100 Club this academic year and parents took part in a 13-mile sponsored walk around the surrounding villages of Ombersley. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication from both the committee and staff and parents to make these events a success, so I would like to thank everyone for their amazing generosity and support.”
