TWO nurses from Droitwich and Bromsgrove will walk the Great Wall of China in aid of the charity Bliss which cares for premature and sick babies.

Ms Sarah Morris, 49, from Laurel Gardens in Barnt Green and Mrs Mary Passant, 54, of Bagehott Close will take part in a five-day trek taking place on Sunday, September 21.

Mary said: “We’re both over whelmed by the support we have received from family, friends and even strangers who have given time and money to support us.

“We’re both passionate about the work Bliss does for babies born too soon, too sick and too small.

“As nurses we have both work closely with premature babies and seen the real support Bliss offers to staff and families. Bliss works to ensure that all babies have the best chance of survival and of reaching their full potential.

“There are several charities that we could have raised money for, charities that have touched both of our lives but we chose Bliss because it a relatively small charity that on a daily basis supports babies and families at the most vulnerable time of their lives.”

The duo has already raised around £7,000 with some of the money already being sent to the charity.

To raise the cash they held a summer ball at the Pear Tree inn & Country Hotel in Smite lane, Worcester on Saturday, May 3 and a tea party on Saturday, July 26 at a vicarage in Rugby along with three pub quizzes.

This week, Molly Branchett, a four-year-old who was a very premature baby, did ice bucket challenge and donated £10 to the cause.

Sarah’s mother has been raising money by taking Bliss collection boxes to her NHS retirement meeting and also to her church and through this she had raised more than £120.

The pair sent out letters to several companies asking for support and in return Amazon donated £100 and Jaguar gave them a cheque for £250.

Recently the pair spent a weekend in Pembrokeshire where they walked around 20 miles in preparation for their trip.

They will now set off on their journey from London Heathrow Airport on Friday, September 19.

At Christmas the pair are hoping to host a second ball.
