ONE couple’s big day proved a small landmark in the town, as Francis Price and Aaron Gregson celebrated the first gay marriage to be held at the Chateau Impney last week.

The couple met 10 years ago at a party in Sevenoaks in Kent, where Mr Price had been living at the time.

He said: “We’ve been waiting a long time and it all came right in the end. We were all set up for a civil partnership and then the law changed.

“We were delighted that we were able to have a marriage because it was important to us, and we totally respect the people who have had a civil partnership and gone before us.”

A university friend of Mr Gregson’s travelled up to Droitwich from the south east of England to perform the ceremony for the big day.

Mr Price, a retired West End theatre technician, and Mr Gregson, who works as a recruitment administrator, have both lived in Mr Gregson’s home county of Worcestershire for the past 10 years, and wanted to mark their special day in Droitwich.

Mr Price added: “We had the most absolutely fabulous time. The Chateau did us very well, they did us proud.”

The two started their new life together walking down the aisle to Murray Gold’s ‘Song of Freedom’ from Doctor Who in front of 70 guests, with readings from several friends.
