A CHARITY football match which was organised to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice has raised £300 for the charity.

The match was organised by the former and current members of the Droitwich Veteran Football Club, which has been running in the town for more than 20 years.

The match came out of a suggestion at one of the member’s 70th birthday celebrations to help the hospice in memory of former club members who had passed away.

The club has several former members who are now in their seventies and returned to play the charity match.

Frank Stacey, who organised the match said: “It was a great day, with the youngest player being 51 and the three oldest players who were John Armstrong, our 70-year-old birthday boy, and Peter Cobham and John Simpson, both 71. We raised £300 on the day which will be given to St Richard's Hospice in memory of absent players.”

Both teams pitched in with contributions to the fundraising and anyone else who attended was also invited to add to the club’s efforts.
