PARENTS of pupils at Chawson First School in Droitwich have been enjoying a rare opportunity to be flies on the wall in their children’s classrooms, as the school opened its door up for the day.

Each year group at the school has had a special day, where parents have been invited to come in and hear a presentation from the head, before joining their children in the classroom for the morning, and taking part in lessons with them.

Headteacher Helen Wallace, said: “We’ve been thrilled by how well supported these mornings have been. It’s lovely to see so many parents in school and to be able to share our teaching and learning, something we’re all very proud of. The parents have all had a wonderful time too.”

Parent Abi Palmer spent the morning with her son in the classroom.

She added: “There was a lot I didn’t realise. It’s helpful to know how to help him at home. He’s absolutely thriving and he loves school.”

This is the first year the school has tried out the idea, with parents all sent invites to the special day, and staff at the school have been so impressed with the enthusiasm parents have shown in seeing how their children learn, that the days might well become a permanent fixture from now on.
