THE Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival has been nominated for a Visit Worcestershire Award for Excellence.

The awards are organised as part of the Annual Tourism Conference to recognise the achievements of local businesses.

The festival has been nominated in the Best Festivals and Events category, where it is competing against Broadway Arts Festival and Upton Blues Festival.

Patrick Davis organiser of the Droitwich Food Festival, said: “I’m thrilled, it’s great to be recognised. I think it really helps to get Droitwich on the foody map. It’s only the second year, so we’ll wait and see what we actually get on the day, but the event this year was brilliant, we had 120 stalls and the reaction from stall holders and visitors was really positive.”

Mike Ashton, chief executive of Visit Worcestershire, added: "Tourism is the third largest industry in the county, accounting for 25,000 jobs and £538 million of expenditure. Worcestershire has some excellent businesses in the tourism industry, which we should be proud of, and the 2014 Visit Worcestershire Awards for Excellence is the perfect opportunity to celebrate their many achievements."

Winners in each of the eight categories in the awards will be announced on Thursday, October 23, and the winner and highly commended entry from each of the categories will be put forward to the 2015 VisitEngland Awards For Excellence.
