STUDENTS at Droitwich Spa High School and Sixth Form are taking part in their annual School Charities Week, where they organise a number of fundraising activities, raising money for a local charity, a national charity and an international charity.

This year the pupils have come up with a number of quirky ways to raise money during their break and lunch times, including a sponsored leg waxing, a chance to put one of the teachers into the stocks, and a ‘Family Fortune’ style game.

There will also be opportunities for younger pupils to help out by spending money on a variety of games and stalls at the school, including a treasure hunt, dancing games, cake stalls, popcorn stands and a ‘keepy uppy’ challenge.

The school is raising money locally for Chadsgrove School in Bromsgrove, which teaches student with special needs from two to 20-years-old. Nationally the pupils are helping to fund the Teenage Cancer Trust, and internationally, the pupils are raising money for Ngobit School in Kenya, which they already have strong links with.

The school’s head girl Rebecca Hesk, has organised the week with head boy Louis Holliday.

She said: “We have tried to incorporate some new features into this year’s event, so we have a Guinness World Record attempt in the theatre on Tuesday when students will attempt to blow up 500 balloons in a minute and on Friday 24 at 7pm there will be a family quiz with teams from across the community welcome to join in the fun.”

Headteacher Nathalie Waters, added: “Charities Week is a very fine feature of school life. Every year there is a very special atmosphere in the school and, very importantly, it is an event led by our students. The ideas are theirs, the work is their own and they decide which good causes they will support.”
