FOLLOWING on from the success of last year’s event which saw more than 200 youngsters taking part, Droitwich Arts Network and the community choir are organising a second town Lantern Parade.

The parade will take place in Lido Park on Friday, December 12, with children and families carrying their lanterns from the St Peter’s car park end to the bandstand starting at 6.30pm.

Last year pupils from several Droitwich schools took part, and this year a cub scouts group will also be joining in, with children from Droitwich Spa High School, Chawson Primary School, Westlands Primary School, Witton Middle School and St Peters Primary School lending their support, and other school including Westacre Middle School, St Joseph’s Primary School, and Dodderhill expected to join them.

Members of the Droitwich Arts Network are going into school to help show children how to construct their own lanterns for the event, and a worksheet has also been created which is being given out to pupils to help them make a lantern at home if they want to.

The event promises to involve much of the community with the Droitwich Spa Father Christmas leading the parade, and marshalls provided by the Droitwich Spa Rotary Club. Members of the Norbury Theatre will be in the park dressed in pantomime costumes, and the community choir will be leading carol singing at the bandstand once the parade is complete, with a performance by the Salvation Army Band.

Friends of the Lido are also hoping to open the Lido Café for hot drinks on the night.
