SCHOOLS and youth groups in and around Droitwich are being invited to take up a challenge to show their involvement with the community by making a video.

The videos will be entered into a competition being organised by the Worcestershire County Council chairman Councillor Pam Davey.

Children and young people are being asked to fill out a form before the end of November if they’re interested in entering the competition, and then we will have until Friday, February 13 to put their videos together and send them in to be judged.

Judges for the contest will include the vice chancellor of the University of Worcester, the wife of the lord lieutenant, the high sheriff of Worcestershire and the managing director of a company specialising in producing promotional educational videos for international companies.

Councillor Davey, chairman of Worcestershire County Council, said: "Schools and youth groups do so many things that involve the local community, I thought this competition would be a great way for them to showcase the valuable work they do. It may also inspire other young people and their teachers and leaders, by seeing what has already been achieved, to get involved in their local community."

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, added: "Getting involved with the local community provides benefits on many different levels, from getting to know and care for local people and amenities to improving an individual sense of well-being by giving something back. We know that young people get involved all over the county and by using video technology, we hope to hear from them, in their own way and in their own words, what it means to get involved."
