MORE than £25,000 has been raised for the Chris Jones Riders Fund in the past year by marshals at motorcycle racing events.

The fund was launched in 2008 by Pam Jones, following the death of her 14-year-old son, Chris Jones that year. Chris had been a rising star in the world of competitive motorcycle racing, but he was unfortunately killed as the result of a crash at the British Superbike at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

Mrs Jones, and her husband Clive, who own CJ Motorcyles and Scooters in Droitwich, were originally aiming to raise £200,000 to pay for an x-ray unit at the circuit, but since 2008 the charity fund has skyrocketed, managing to raise nearly £1 million, and paying for a mobile intensive care unit and three physiotherapists, which follow the whole Superbike season, as well as an air ambulance to be present at Caldwell Park each year.

Race Safe Marshals, who are present at all of the race meetings throughout the season, have been carrying buckets and asking for donations for the fund, and they’ve managed to raise £25,379 throughout 2014.
