LOCAL businesses in Droitwich are being warned to be wary of cold callers claiming to be from the police after someone called a business premises on St Andrew’s Street in the town at 2pm on Tuesday, January 20 to ask if they would be interested in advertising in a police magazine.

The caller, whose number was withheld, claimed to be from West Mercia Police, but when they were asked for their name they hung up the phone.

West Mercia Police has reassured businesses saying it would never make cold calls, but would arrange appointments, and staff would never put the phone down if asked for their name.

If anyone has received a similar suspicious phone call, they are advised to call West Mercia Police on the non-emergency number 101 referencing incident no. 0298S 200115 and report the incident.
