LOVE was in the air at a Droitwich day care centre through a special Valentine's tree.

Staff at Westmead Residential Day Care in Westmead Close, created the tree from branches which were filled with heart shaped messages - written to loved ones past and present - that were tied to the tree with ribbons.

The activity provided popular in the run up to Valentine’s Day for clients at the centre, which is next door to Sanctuary Care’s Westmead Residential Care Home.

The tree included messages from husbands written to wives who visit the centre, cards for friends, grandchildren and even to a puppy.

Manager Jacqui Brown said: “Our clients have absolutely loved creating their tree – it has been a wonderful activity filled with joy and sentiment.

“Their families have been fascinated by the idea so have been sending in messages to hang on our tree which has been a wonderful way to involve loved ones in the activity.

“Some people may not be mobile enough to get out and buy a card so this has been a lovely way for them to put their thoughts in writing and tell someone special how much they mean to them.”

Cathy Eva, who is 76 and has been visiting the centre for more than six years, said: “I enjoyed making hearts for the tree which I dedicated to family members. It makes me smile whenever I walk past it.”
