A DROITWICH couple have been celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary recently, after spending 60 years of marriage together in the town.

Bill and Sheila Gandy celebrated their special day with a party for 100 family members and friends at Gaudet Luce Golf Club.

Mrs Gandy, who is 80, met Mr Gandy who is now 81, 68 years ago when he first moved into town.

She said: “He moved from Wychbold to Droitwich in 1947 to his grandmother’s house about three doors from where I lived and we just got together from there, he grew on me.”

Mr Gandy added: “She thought ‘I’ll have him before somebody else pockets him’.”

The two were married on February 19, 1955 at St Peter’s Church in Droitwich, and while Bill worked at MEB, and at New Way on the assembly lines, Sheila had jobs at a glove factory, and at Cadbury’s in Worcester, before having seven children, Sue, Colin, John, Graham, Steven, Alan and Ian.

The couple now have 15 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, most of whom are still local to Droitwich, while Mr and Mrs Gandy still live in Droitwich.

Mrs Gandy added: “You don’t see one of us without the other very often, we’re always together. We need each other these days.

“It’s not without arguments. You have just got to get through them and carry on.”
