DROITWICH Athletics Club is launching the NHS Couch to 5k programme to people up and running who might never have run before.

The programme, which lasts nine weeks, is open to people of all ages and abilities, and will be running from outside Droitwich Leisure Centre, starting at 6pm on April 29.

People will build up slowly to run for five kilometres, running group sessions, as well as advice and encouragement.

Droitwich Athletics Club, chairman Pete Robinson, said: “I am overwhelmed by the amount of people we have successfully managed to complete the couch to 5k programme. Some have gone on to become members of our club and are now regularly running two to three times a week, others reached their long-time goal of being able to run and generally improve their fitness levels and for this I praise our dedicated team of volunteer run leaders and coaches who support, encourage and dedicate time to something they feel really makes a difference.”
