PEOPLE in Worcestershire struggling with depression and stress are being invited to learn about some of the ways they can deal with their problems.

As part of this week’s Mental Health Awareness Week Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs the majority of mental health and community services in the county, is reiterating its commitment to helping people with psychological problems.

As part of this the trust runs a free eight-week Mindfulness-Based Congnitive Therapy course, teaching people how to recognise and manage changes in their mood more effectively.

Studies have shown the therapy can be as effective as anti-depressants in dealing with depression.

Cognitive behavioural therapist with the trust Trish Meenaghan said the therapy included a range of different elements.

“Some have said it helps them discover their inner strength, others have said it has removed the shame of feeling anxious and depressed,” she said. “It has helped other people by giving them the tactics to deal with recurring stress and depression and recognise low moods."
