POLICE have said they don't believe there is a connection between two reports of people carrying firearms in the town, only six days apart.

Armed police were called out to Droitwich on Saturday for the second time in a week following reports of someone carrying a firearm near the abandoned Fox and Goose public house in Farms Way on the Westlands estate.

The armed officers arrived at the scene at approximately 2pm on Saturday, July 18, and a search of the area was conducted, but they concluded there was no risk to the public, and no further action is being taken.

The incident is not believed to be connected to a previous incident on Sunday, July 12, when armed police were deployed following reports of a teenage girl walking down the middle of Droitwich High street carrying a weapon.

The armed teenager involved in that incident has still not been identified.

Chief inspector Jerry Reakes-Williams said: “We have been examining CCTV footage in the area and we have not identified anyone carrying a firearm at this stage. We have also been speaking to other people in the area at the time and beyond the initial information provided, we have not received any additional information at this time to suggest there was a firearm.

"We understand the local concern around this incident and we will continue to investigate until we can definitively confirm whether or not there was someone carrying a firearm.

"We will continue to examine CCTV footage from the area and appeal for anyone in the area at the time who saw anything suspicious or saw someone matching the person’s description to contact us.”

If anyone has any information that can help police locate the teenager they should call 101 quoting incident 0566s of 12th July 2015. Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
