THE 70th anniversary of VJ Day was marked in Droitwich with a special service.

Members of Droitwich's Royal British Legion organised the service that was held at the Spa's war memorial in Victoria Square.

The service began with the poem In Memoriam by EA Mackintosh.

It was read by Royal British Legion member and former Irish guard John O'Rourke.

The Last Post was played by Lee Fisher of Droitwich Spa Salvation Army, and a two minutes silence was held to remember those who gave their lives for the freedom enjoyed in Britain.

The Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Councillor Graham Beale, then paid his respects by laying a wreath.

Remembrance services were held across the country to commemorate the 70th anniversary of VJ Day, the day Japan surrendered and brought an end to the Second World War.
