THREE men have been arrested as police investigate a shooting in Rubery.

A man with a gunshot injury to his abdomen was carried into the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by four of his friends yesterday, (August 17) at 5.15pm.

The 17-year-old victim remains in a critical condition in hospital, recovering from major surgery on his wounds.

Police were notified and inquiries led officers to a flat in Dowry House on Rubery Lane South, where the 17-year-old is believed to have been shot.

Forensic investigators have scoured the scene and the flat has been sealed off.

Two 19-year-olds, from Rednal and Frankley, were arrested in Redditch and a 33-year-old was arrested in Rubery Lane South. All were detained on suspicion of attempted murder and have been held by police.

Detective Chief Inspector Sean Russell, from West Midlands Police who is leading the investigation, said: "The investigation is still in its early stages but so far three men have been arrested and a car and suspected drugs have also been seized.

"We have spoken to local people, identified CCTV which may have captured the shooting on camera and forensic scene investigators have been working hard in their search for clues.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Chief Insp Russell on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
