A DETAILED application for a scheme to build 241 homes in Droitwich went before Wychavon planners at a meeting this afternoon, (March 3).

In July 2014, outline planning application for the site was granted on appeal, after Wychavon District Council's planning committee’s refusal was controversial overturned by the then Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles - angering campaigners against the wider Yew Tree Hill development.

A 'reserved matters application' for 241 dwellings from developers Redrow Homes was considered at Wychavon District Council's planning committee's latest meeting - the application having been recommended for approval by planners.

The application, for the homes to be built on land north of Pulley Lane and Newland Lane, dealt with issues including layout, design and landscape.

The committee's chairman, Paul Middlebrough, said he found it a little surprising no one had come forward to speak against the application, considering the original campaign against the scheme.

During councillors debate on the application Councillor Tony Miller, who represents Lovett and North Claines, said that the reason no one from the campaigners' action group had attended the meeting was because they felt "total disheartened".

"They really do feel let down," he said.

When he commented on the application having originally been turned down, he said he still felt the scheme was "premature".

But on the designs and layout there were positive comments, including from Councillor Bradley Thomas who said it was sensitive to the area, adding the committee "had seen far worse".

When the application was put to the vote it was approved by a majority of 13 votes in favour, with one against.
