YOUNGSTERS at an Ombersley school have hosted a breakfast event as part of their studies on Fairtrade.
Year three and four children at Ombersley Endowed First School and Nursery, in School Bank, hosted a Big Fairtrade breakfast for pupils, teachers, parents and grandparents, after learning all about the topic throughout last term.
They enjoyed a guided tour around Tesco in Warndon Villages, identifying Fairtrade products and were challenged to identify British grown foods in the fruit and vegetable section.
The youngsters also enjoyed a trip around the back of the store, to see what goes on behind the scenes.
For the breakfast event, the children prepared a breakfast with the help of supermarkets Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons and Co-Op, who donated food and vouchers for it.
Caroline Moore, the school's headteacher, said: “Year four made banana bread and year three made chocolate muffins as well as serving porridge, cereal, toast with jam or honey, tea, coffee and juices.
"All of the products were Fairtrade, British or locally produced."
The breakfast proved a success and also raised nearly £100 for Save The Children Syrian refugees.
