BUSINESSES are being encouraged to sign up for a free event highlighting the benefits of employing apprentices.

Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership are holding the Droitwich Apprenticeships Employer Event on Wednesday, May 4, at St Andrew’s Town Hotel, in St Andrew's Drive.

The event will be providing information about the changes in legislation regarding apprenticeships, including the Employer Levy, giving details on the funding available for apprenticeships, and offering the chance to hear from a representative from a company already successfully hiring apprentices.

Advice and support will also be available on the day for companies looking to take on an apprentice.

Councillor Richard Morris, portfolio holder for economic growth and housing on Wychavon District Council, said: “We know a shortage of skills is the biggest threat facing the district’s economy.

"Apprenticeships are an ideal way of helping fill that gap and train the workforce of the future.

"I would urge as many businesses as possible to attend.”

The event takes place between 12.30pm and 2pm.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to email Kim Cook from Worcestershire Apprenticeships on kim@hwstpa.co.uk.
