THREE injured men were cut from the wreckage of two cars following a crash on a main road.

A total of five men were rushed to hospital – one by air ambulance – following the three car smash on the A442 near Droitwich on Wednesday, March 8.

The most seriously injured man, aged in his 30s, was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with a head injury, wrist fracture, leg injury and possible fracture to his pelvis.

The other four men – a 35-year-old with lower back pain and left wrist pain, a 21-year-old with seat belt pain, a 24-year-old with hip pain, and a man in his 20s with facial and leg injuries – were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The crash took place at around 2.45pm at the junction of the A442 and Curslow Lane, near Rushock, and police shut the road.

Firefighters from Kidderminster, two crews from Droitwich and a crew from Bromsgrove attended, and freed three men who were trapped in two cars.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) rapid response vehicle came across the incident shortly after it had happened.

A further four ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

A WMAS spokesman said: "Two of the cars had suffered significant damage, while the third was relatively undamaged.

"Three people were initially trapped in the wreckage of the badly damaged cars; two in one car and one in the other.

"Ambulance staff treated the patients while firefighters set about cutting them free.

"The most seriously injured person was a man in his 30s who was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with a head injury, wrist fracture, a leg injury and a possible fracture to his pelvis. He was immobilised and had a pelvic binder put in place.

"The other four patients injured were all men; they were less serious and all went to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

"They were a 35 year old with lower back pain and left wrist pain; a 21 year old man with seat belt pain; a 24 year old with hip pain and a man in his 20s with facial and leg injuries."
