Flag raised to mark Armed Forces Day

CADETS, ex-military personnel and civic guests gathered to watch a flag being raised to mark Armed Forces Day.

Wychavon District Council raised the flag at the Civic Centre, Pershore, yesterday in the lead up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 30.

The day aims to remind people of the contributions made by those who serve, and have served, in the armed forces. It also gives an opportunity to show support for men and women who make up the armed forces.

Chairman of Wychavon, Councillor Richard Morris raised the flag and said “I feel honoured to have the opportunity to mark Armed Forces Day with the flag raising ceremony to remember the sacrifice and hard work of our troops. This year’s ceremony has been the biggest one yet and I am proud that so many people from across Wychavon attended to show their support.”

After prayers and blessing, Last Post was followed by a minutes silence and Binyon’s Lines, observing the traditions of a military ceremony.
