LIGHTS of Love will be shining once again in Bromsgrove as part of an annual fund-raising appeal.

Primrose Hospice’s appeal, this year in its 15th year, is the most poignant event in the charity’s annual calendar.

The campaign enables relatives and friends to remember a loved one who is no longer with them at this special time of year, by dedicating a light to them on the Lights of Love Tree.

At the same time they make a donation to Primrose Hospice, based in St Godwald’s Road, which offers a wide range of clinical and support services to those living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Last year the appeal proved very popular, raising more than £20,000 for the charity.

Bromsgrove’s Lights of Love Tree is this year being situated at the top of High Street, near The Strand.

Names of loved ones will be displayed around the base of the tree and a book of remembrance will also be on display in Bromsgrove Methodist Church, in Stratford Road.

A memorial service is being held at the church this Saturday, (November 17) at 4pm, as part of the council’s Christmas lights switch-on.

The service offers those who wish to the chance to light their candle for a loved one.

In Rubery, the Lights of Love tree will be based in New Road, with the village’s book of remembrance displayed in the Primrose Hospice Shop opposite.

The lights switch-on will be in conjunction with the council celebrations on Saturday, November 24, at 5.30pm.

Lyn Winters, the hospice’s fund-raising manager, said: “For most people, Christmas is a happy time, but for many it is a time for reflection and sadness.

"We appreciate the generous nature of local people for thinking of Primrose Hospice as well as their loved ones at this special time, when we think about those who have played an important part in our lives and are no longer with us.”

Envelopes for donations are available at the hospice’s Bromsgrove and Rubery shops. Alternatively, visit primrosehospice.org/tree_of_light.
