Bromsgrove women become calendar girls to raise money for charity
A GROUP of fund-raisers will be striking a pose in pubs around Bromsgrove for a calendar raising money for a cancer charity.
Alison Lees organised for her friends to come together to take part in the fun calendar, in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The Bromsgrove resident explained the motivation behind her fund-raiser was that she had attended 12 funerals in just two years, where the deaths had been caused by cancer, and then had her own cervical cancer scare.
“It opened my eyes to exactly what Cancer Research do and how many people are affected by cancer as it is not only the person themselves, but also everyone else around them,” she said.
“We have all lost someone or experienced cancer ourselves so this is something that means a lot to many people.
“We hope to raise a substantial amount of money to help the Cancer Research team continue to do their great work.”
Alison gained inspiration to create the calendar after seeing a stage production based on the successful Calendar Girls film.
The 2014 calendar, which has been given the theme of Beer Festival, Celebration of Life, will feature 17 local women, including Alison, who are being sponsored to take part.
Images are being tasteful shot by Jessy Paston, who is picturing the women posing in Bromsgrove pubs including the Wildmoor Oak, the Wishing Well, the Crown, the Nailers Arms, the Ewe & Lamb, the Grapevine and the Dodford Inn.
The calendar will go on sale at a launch party, being held at the Black Cross in Worcester Road, on June 2.
The fancy dress party will include a raffle, offering a variety of prizes, and a mixture of family fun activities.
So far more than £1,000 has been raised towards a £5,000 target which has been set.
