Hagley residents given chance to have their say on new estate

HAGLEY residents are being given the chance to have their say on the new housing estate in the village, given the green light by Bromsgrove planners last month.

Outline planning permission for Cala Homes’ scheme to build a 175-home development on a site in Kidderminster Road, was approved at the last meeting of Bromsgrove District Council’s planning committee.

The estate is proposed to have affordable homes and bungalows for the elderly or mobility impaired.

More than £1m has also been committed by the developer to be spent on improving the Kidderminster Road roundabout and the junction of Kidderminster Road and Worcester Road, while a further £750,000 would be contributed towards education in the area.

But protesters fought a bitter campaign against the estate, which included setting up a petition which attracted 4,000 signatures and holding a march.

Workshops, designed to gain feedback from villagers on the scheme’s details, have now been announced.

Among the aspects of the scheme residents can comment on are the housing styles, the site’s design and the use of public open space.

The workshops are being run by an independent party, and will help form the developer’s detailed planning application, expected to be submitted in the spring.

New artist’s impressions of how the new estate in Hagley could look, have also been released.

Workshops will take place at 9.30am and 1.30pm on February 23, and 1.30pm and 6pm on February 25.

Places on the workshops are limited, so anyone interested is asked to register their interest on the developer’s website, cala.co.uk/hagley, by 5pm on Friday, February 15.

Darren Humphreys, Cala Homes’ regional managing director, said: “The workshops are part of our ongoing programme of community consultation.

“We appreciate that this is a significant development for the village and are committed to keeping local people updated and involved.

“We want to work together to create a development that we can all be proud of.”
