YOUNGSTERS from a Charford school has been enjoying their new play area, designed to create the feeling of being in the countryside.
Charford First School’s new outdoor area was designed with the help of its pupils, and has been kept as natural as possible.
It features a hill, quarry, an orchard, a dry moat and island, and a storytelling area.
Work was able to begin on the area after the school was successful in gaining a grant from Awards for All, a Big Lottery Fund scheme.
The plan is for the area to be further developed, after more money is raised, but in the meantime the school’s youngsters are in the process of planting more than 100 trees.
Wendy Dwyer, assistant headteacher at the Charford Road-based school, said: “The idea is to give children the opportunity to explore and be outside as much as possible.
"It is great for links within the curriculum too and the children have loved being part of the whole building process.
“We are looking forward to the completion of a mini beast hotel, a glass maze and a willow tunnel, later on this year.”
