A MOUNTAIN rescue volunteer from Bromsgrove, is preparing to walk the equivalent of a marathon in a day over the Black Mountains to raise money for charity.

Matthew Massey, who works for The Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) is being sponsored to undergo the 27 mile trek in order to raise money for some new radios for his organisation, which operates an inshore rescue boat and undergoes land searches around Shropshire and the Severn estuary.

He said: “I live in Bromsgrove, but we cover all over the Shrewsbury and Worcestershire area. We do land searches. I’ve been doing it for five years and we’re on call 365 days a year. We help the police in the West Midlands if anyone goes missing or there’s floods. I love it to bits, and I’m greatly looking forward to this challenge and the chance to raise as much money as possible for charity.”

Mr Massey is planning to walk and run The Black Mountain Challenge on Saturday, April 13. Anyone wishing to sponsor him can visit justgiving.com/Matthew-Massey1.
