AN adoption campaign for gay, bisexual and transgender people in Worcestershire has been hailed a success.

A national awareness week, which this year ran from March 4 - 10, was organised by New Family Social, a charity run by adopters and foster carers for families and families-to-be.

Worcestershire County Council's adoption and fostering services joined together to celebrate the occasion at a drop-in event at The Hive, Worcester, on Saturday, March 9.

The event aimed to raise awareness of fostering and adoption and to provide an opportunity for people to meet other gay, bisexual and transgender families who have fostered or adopted children.

Julie Elliot, service manager for Worcestershire's adoption and fostering services, said: "We're absolutely thrilled by the success of this year's event in Worcestershire. It's important for anyone thinking about adopting or fostering that there are no blanket bans and people shouldn't rule themselves out without contacting us first to talk through what might be possible for them.”
