THE anxious wait for hard-working Bromsgrove students was over after the publication of A-level results today, (August 15).

And a number of youngsters were pleased to discover they had secured a place at their chosen university.

There were exceptional performances from pupils at North Bromsgrove High School.

Lauren Hewitt achieved two A*s, an A and a B, while Laura Small gained an A*, two As and AS level A.

The number of students taking the exams at the school rose 26 per increase, and there was a significant improvement in overall performance.

David Hadley-Pryce, the school’s headteacher, said: “It really is great to see our young people working so hard with their teachers to improve their life chances with these superb results, many in very challenging subjects.”

The headteacher of South Bromsgrove High School, Paul Topping, said its sixth form pupils had help maintain the very high standards expected.

There was an overall pass rate of 99 per cent, with 226 students achieving the coveted A* to B grades.

Among the outstanding performers were Catherine Jones and Harry Rhodes, who both achieved three A*s and one A.

Mr Topping said: “I would like to congratulate students on their outstanding achievements and thank parents for their wisdom and support.

“We believe all of our students have succeeded in securing their expected destinations beyond school and we wish them well.”

At Bromsgrove School, 199 pupils sat 650 A-levels. Impressively, 88.6 per cent of grades achieved were at A* to B, while 27.3 per cent were at A*.

Headmaster Chris Edwards said: “After July’s International Baccalaureate success I wondered if we’d seen all the good news.

“I was wrong.

“My unreserved congratulations to staff, parents and, again, the pupils themselves - this is a year we will never forget.”

There was a 100 per cent pass rate at NEW College across a variety of subjects including biology, philosophy and business studies.

John Callaghan, NEW College’s principal, said: "I'm really thrilled to see our students' hard work has paid off.

“I'm proud to see many of them going on to universities around the country and I look forward to welcoming back those students that have chosen to take a university-level course at NEW College.”
