Bromsgrove Fire Station holds successful open day
7:00am Friday 6th September 2013 in Local
HUNDREDS of visitors dropped in on Bromsgrove Fire Station’s open day - the last one ever to be held at the Windsor Street station.
The event included a range of vehicles and equipment on display, facepainting, fire, water and road safety advice, demonstrations including a road traffic collision, and drills from the Young Firefighters Association.
An estimated 1,000 people attended the open day, which was last held at the site before the move to the new station in Slideslow Drive.
The event also raised £624 which is being donated to The Fire Fighters Charity.
The charity helps injured firefighters, as well as people orphaned or widowed as a result of the death of a firefighter.
Station Commander Phil Berry said: “It was a fantastic day with plenty of visitors enjoying the demonstrations and taking part in a number of safety competitions.
“We gave members of the public a chance to pick up safety advice on a range of issues, and provided an opportunity for the emergency services and volunteer agencies to come together, to promote safety awareness in a number of areas.”
He added that he wanted to particularly thank Don Mackenzie and Caroline Webster, whose hard work and enthusiasm over many months had helped make the day a success.
